A preparatory meeting on the case of a youth activist of NIDA Elgiz Gahraman was not held on December 9 due to the absence of the defendant’s lawyers.
The judge of Baku Court of Grave Crimes Azad Mejidov suggested the participation of state attorneys, but Gahraman refused. After that, the judge postponed the meeting for December 14.
The activist was arrested on August 12 on charges of drug trafficking in large quantities (supposedly he was found 3.315 grams of heroin). However the NIDA movement is convinced that the activist is persecuted for political reasons. Human rights activists have recognized him a political prisoner. -06B-
