Elshan Hasanov Released from Police
Baku / 06.03.19 / Turan: At about 3:00 pm, the human rights activist Elshan Hasanov was released from the 12th police station of the Sabunchu district police department. In an interview with Turan, he said policemen came for him around 10 am and took him to the 12th station.
According to him, the deputy chief of the police station spoke to him. The human rights activist was asked about his party affiliation and relatives, and in general collected personal data.
"I told them that I am not a member of a party, but I am engaged in human rights activities, and my relatives do not maintain ties with me because of my opposition views," Hasanov said.
At the same time, he was asked about the reasons for participating in the January 19 rally. Hasanov said the rally was devoted to the demands for the release of the blogger Mehman Huseynov and other political prisoners, and he participated in it as a human rights activist.
"I said that if there were rallies dedicated to the cases of political prisoners, or cases of torture in places of detention, then I would join them again," Hasanov said. He noted that he was treated correctly by the police.
Hasanov believes the true reason for his call to the police could be the publication of the updated list of political prisoners by the Union for the Freedom of Political Prisoners on March 4. Hasanov is the coordinator of this organization. -06B--

Amid the bustling scenes of this year’s COP29 climate conference, a protest against whaling and deep-sea mining, organized by a group calling itself the FINS Initiative, drew significant attention from delegates and observers. However, questions have arisen about the legitimacy of the group, as an internet search yields little evidence of its existence beyond scattered mentions.

In the last two days, a "news" story appeared on TikTok about a whale spotted on Baku's seaside boulevard. The most "observant" users posted videos, commenting on the size of the animal. Later, other "witnesses" claimed it wasn't a whale, but a shark. Even later, a version emerged suggesting it was a submarine.
