Eruption of Mud Volcano in Hajigabul
The eruption of the mud volcano Akhtarma-Pashaly happened in the Hajigabul region of Azerbaijan (120 km from Baku) on the night of January 26. As the press service of the Emergencies Ministry said, the volcano is located near the village of Udulu, but the eruption did not create problems for the local people. Representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations arrived at the scene to monitor the situation.
Located 35 km from the city of Shirvan, Akhtarma-Pashaly is one of the largest mud volcanoes in Azerbaijan, which are dozens in number. Its first recorded eruption was in 1948.
Mud volcanoes erupt dozens of tons of mud, but sometimes they also erupt gas that can ignite and explode. Therefore, facilities are not built near such volcanoes. Mud volcanoes are also a natural indication of the presence of oil and gas in the ground. -03B-
