Family of Austrian Athlete Requires Compensation from Azerbaijan
The family of the Austrian athlete Vanessa Shahinovich who became disabled as a result of a collision with a bus in the "athletes village" at the European Games in Baku has not yet received from the Azerbaijani government the promised compensation, the newspaper Der Standard says.
The family also demands compensation for rehabilitation costs. The family lawyer has filed a lawsuit against the company, which employed the bus driver.
16-year-old Shahinovich, despite the one-year course of rehabilitation at the resorts of Austria, was not able to restore her propulsion system. She has her lower limbs paralyzed and she lost the ability to move independently.
Recall that Shahinovich and two athletes from the Austrian team in synchronized swimming suffered as a result of a collision with a bus in the "Village of the athletes."
Then, the Azerbaijani government took measures to treat them and the authorities allocated a special plane to transport the athletes to Vienna and covered the cost of her treatment. Shahinovich is from a family of Bosnian immigrants. -06D--
