Five customs officers were detained for bribes

Baku/18.05.21/Turan: The General Prosecutor's Office and the State Customs Committee issued a statement on May 18 stating that on March 30 information was received about illegal delays in customs clearance. Based on this information, an operation was carried out by the General Directorate for Combating Corruption under the General Prosecutor's Office.

Head of the Department of Special Customs Procedures of the Main Directorate of Baku Customs Aydin Eilazov, Chief Inspector of the Department of Customs Procedures and Payments Emin Khalilov, inspector of the customs post Ipek Yolu Miraga Agayev, as well as director of Global Broker and specialist on customs issues at D2D Logistics LLC Jeyhun Shabanov were detained.

Revealed serious grounds that they took bribes, creating customs clearance of goods without paying value added tax.

On May 17, 2021, a criminal case was initiated against these persons under Article 311.3.2 (repeated bribery) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
On the basis of the collected evidence, Elmar Mirzaev, Emin Khalilov, Miraga Agayev, Jeyhun Shabanov and Aydin Eilazov were detained as suspects. The investigation is ongoing, the report said. -02В-
