Four relatives, Tehran, Nazaket , Geychak and Parviz Abdullayev joined the hunger strike by the former officer of the National Security Ministry (NSM) Azad Mursaliyeva, which began on January 22. They demand to clarify the issue on kidnapping the major of the NSM, Mahir Abdullayev, in October 2003 , the termination of the violation of the rights of the former rector of the Azerbaijan International University ( AIU) Elshad Abdullayev who is in political emigration in France, and other relatives.
A press conference with the participants of the hunger strike took place on January 27 in the address: Ismail Bey Gutgashenly, 9.
Participants of the rally protested against the inaction of the investigation, which for 10 years has not disclosed kidnapping Mahir Abdullayev. They are also protesting against repression of Elshad Abdullayev, against whom lawsuit was filed due to operations on human organ transplantation in the clinic of the University, to which Elshad Abdullayev did not have any relation.
Relatives believe that Mahir Abdullayev was kidnapped by a grouping close to the authorities.
"The authorities have not expressed any attitude to our hunger strike. We want an independent investigative committee under the General Prosecutor's Office provided information about the investigation on kidnapping Mahir Abdullayev, and if anybody has been brought to justice," said Mursaliyev.
Elshad Abdullayev , who since 2010 has been in exile in France, has also stated that they demanded a large ransom for the release of his brother. In recent years, he introduced the video evidence on money extortion from him for the liberation of his brother.
The nephew of Mahir and Elshad Abdullayevs, Mubariz Abdullayev, was also arrested.
He was sentenced on August 21, 2013 by Lankaran Serious Crimes Court to 10 years in prison under Article 182.3.2 (extortion by threats of property on a large scale.) According to relatives , he was tortured to testify against Elshad Abdullayev.
