Sexual minorities call on to protect their rights
The fact suicide committed by the head of the organization "Free LGBT" , a 20-year-old Isa Shahmarly, once again proved the need to protect the rights of gays in Azerbaijan. Shahmarly served just this idea, and his death was the cause of Monday 's press conference at the Media Center IRFS Alliance "Nefes" LGBT. " The Alliance leader Attila (Javid ) Nabiyev noted that it is a first press conference of homosexuals in Azerbaijan. He stressed that there is a homophobia in Azerbaijan, which has turned into hatred, and on the basis of which crimes are committed . Format "not like the others" is sufficient grounds for committing a hate crime.
Appeals to law enforcement representatives of sexual minorities are often meaningless, because the attitude towards them is humiliating. Gay do not have problems with the government; they have problems with people misunderstand and hate them.
Can this be the reason for the murder? According to the speakers, it is necessary to toughen penalties for crimes committed by hate. Problems is created also by media , or rather language media used in the materials on homosexuality which is inciting hatred.
The LGBT representatives want to start a campaign to collect signatures to introduce the question on protection of sexual minorities in parliament , want to arrange on-line petition. They have a lot of plans for enlightening young people, and creating a "hot line" .
The participants of the resent at the press conference and close friends of Isa Shahmarly expressed disbelief to the fact of his suicide. They said that he had many plans and work for enlightenment, and the creation of free radio, videos, for protecting the rights of gays. Friends say he could not have committed suicide, or hung himself on the LGBT flag. -04С-
