Former investigator: "I can be transferred to a closed prison"
Baku/22.07.17/Turan: On July 21, the Committee to Protect the Rights of the former investigator Safarov Rufat, who is in custody, held a regular meeting, said a member of the committee, head of the "Association of Intelligentsia" Eldaniz Guliyev. E. Guliyev also protested, saying that the former investigator is disturbed even in jail: "Rufat Bey, sentenced to 9 years for an imperfect crime, is disturbed in jail; much is done to obtain his sending to a closed-type correctional prison, in order to silent and break him down." Guliyev called such attitude to the prisoner, a member of the committee inhumane, lawlessness, very great injustice and, most importantly, unmerciful.
E. Guliyev believes that all this lawlessness are the result of enmity and hatred of Safarov.
According to him, R. Safarov reported through his parents that he received information that preparations are being made for his transfer to Gobustan jail: "He regarded placing in a punishment cell in the jail N 9, first for three days, and then for seven days, as a preparation for transfer to a closed prison." Lawyer Bahruz Bayramli said that he will clarify these questions after the meeting with R. Safarov in the coming week.
R.Safarov was an investigator of the Zardab regional prosecutor's office. On December 20, 2015, spreading a statement of protest against lawlessness in law enforcement agencies, he resigned. At the end of December of the same year, Safarov was detained and brought to court in the Binagadi district. He was arrested for three months and 26 days, and a charge of bribery was brought against him. In January 2016, this preventive measure was replaced by house arrest. A criminal investigation was conducted by the Office for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General, and in September 2016 by the decision of the Court for Serious Crimes in the Lankaran region, without giving the last word, was deprived of liberty for 9 years. He is serving a sentence in jail N 9.
R. Safarov is the son of Eldar Sabiroglu, the former deputy of the "Yeni Azerbaijan Party, the former head of the press service of the Defense Ministry.--0-

The closure of Azerbaijan's land borders was discussed during the parliamentary session on November 25. While the government’s decision cites the coronavirus pandemic as the main reason—despite the World Health Organization declaring its end last year—Zahid Oruj, Chair of the Human Rights Committee in the Milli Majlis, pointed to other factors. He stated, "Opening the borders could result in an influx of hundreds of thousands of non-Azerbaijani refugees due to the Russia-Ukraine war. Additionally, in Iran, many are prepared to cross into Azerbaijan to safeguard their lives and assets amid military strikes. Such waves of refugees could lead to humanitarian, social, and cultural clashes that may threaten political stability."
