Gender Preference in Childbirth Weakened Gender Development in Azerbaijan

Among the 135 countries subjected to monitoring by the World Economic Forum (WEF), Azerbaijan occupies the 99th position in the issue of gender equality.

When Azerbaijan was ranked in 2007, it was in 59th place. In later years due to the "tightening the political screws," it fell from 61st, to 89th,to 100th, up to 91st, and this year, 99th place.

Azerbaijan lost eight points compared to last year.  This is the due to reduced quality in secondary and higher education, the preference male births, and poor implementation of gender policy laws in the field.

One reason is the limitation in promotions for women and the virtual absence in leadership in large economic business structures.  .

Azerbaijani women's participation in the economy is at 74th, on education quality, 84th, and in politics, 113th.

Noted in the study the unacceptable preference of male births, Azerbaijan is last at 135th place.  Worse than Saudi Arabia, Syria, Chad, Pakistan and Yemen who rank at the bottom of the world. list in.

The Nordic countries of Iceland, Finland and Norway, rank at the top three.  The top ten include Sweden, Ireland, New Zealand, Denmark, the Philippines, Nicaragua and Switzerland. Scandinavian countries have closed the gap in gender opportunities and are landmarks according to authors of the report.
