Georgian Court of Appeal reduces arrest of Farman Jeyranly
Baku/20.12.18/Turan: On December 20, the Georgian Court of Appeal reduced the term of imprisonment to the founder of the Lancet clinic, surgeon Farman Jeyranly, from 6 years to 2 years and 3 months, said the daughter of a famous doctor Lala Huseynli.
She recalled that the convict himself and his lawyers asked for an acquittal in the absence of corpus delicti.
Ceyranly has been in custody for 18 months. A native of Georgia, an ethnic Azeri, Jeyranly, founded a private clinic in Tbilisi several years ago and became a successful entrepreneur.
Before that, he was a famous doctor in Azerbaijan, but left the country because of a conflict with the then Minister of Health.
He concealed his sympathy for the Azerbaijani opposition, which caused anger of the authorities in Baku. Two years ago, they began to accuse him of financing the opposition, after which the Georgian authorities arrested him on charges of fraud and harm to the health of patients.
During the trial, these allegations were not confirmed; nevertheless, he was sentenced to six years.
Jeyranly himself is convinced that the reason for his prosecution is an order from the authorities from Azerbaijan, as well as an attempt by certain Georgian officials to seize his business. So, before the arrest, he was offered to sell the clinic at a very low price and leave Georgia, but he refused. -05B-

In the last two days, a "news" story appeared on TikTok about a whale spotted on Baku's seaside boulevard. The most "observant" users posted videos, commenting on the size of the animal. Later, other "witnesses" claimed it wasn't a whale, but a shark. Even later, a version emerged suggesting it was a submarine.
