Giyas Ibrahimov Detained when Leaving Country
Baku / 16.05.1 / Turan: The country's Border Guard Service detained a youth activist of the NIDA movement and former political prisoner Giyas Ibrahimov on May 16 while leaving the country on the Azerbaijani-Georgian border.
According to the coordinator of the movement Samir Asadli, the border guards referred to the ban imposed by the state service on mobilization and conscription. The ban was imposed, allegedly due to non-registration of his military ID. However, on the basis of this particular military ID, the young man recently received a passport.
A few hours later, after lengthy altercations and checks, Ibrahimov was released from the country.
Recall that Giyas Ibrahimov, together with another youth activist Bayram Mammadov, was arrested on May 10, 2016 after they painted a monument to Heydar Aliyev in the center of Baku with political slogans. The young people were sentenced to 10 years in prison, accused of drug trafficking on a large scale. They were recognized by Amnesty International as "prisoners of conscience."
In March of this year, both were pardoned by the President of Azerbaijan. -06D-
