Group making false documents to commute sentences for prisoners is exposed
Baku/20.07.22/Turan: The State Security Service and the Ministry of Justice exposed a group that was preparing fake electronic documents to mitigate punishment for convicts. In order to mitigate the punishment of Elgun Huseynov, convicted of a serious crime, a settlement application was submitted to the Ministry of Justice on behalf of the legal heir of the victim, stated in the joint report.
Since the statement aroused suspicion, an investigation was carried out and it was determined that the document was a fake, produced using a computer program.
Given the signs of a cybercrime, the materials were transferred to the State Security Service for investigation. During the investigation, it was established that Sanan Mehdiyev, Etibar Mehdiyev and Vasif Ismayilov, who had previously served their sentences in the same jail, after being released, and by order of a number of convicts, prepared fake statements about the allegedly compensated damage to the victims or reconciliation in various criminal cases.
The fake documents were allegedly notarized and had QR codes. They were also posted on a website whose interface resembled the official website of the justice authority. Forged documents during court hearings were presented as genuine in order to mitigate the punishment for convicts.
Sanan Mehdiyev, Ehtibar Mehdiyev and Vasif Ismayilov were prosecuted under the Articles 320.1 (illegal production and sale of official documents), 273-2 (forgery of computer data) and 294.3 (falsification of evidence leading to grave consequences) of the Criminal Code.
The State Security Service and the Ministry of Justice continue measures to identify the circle of persons involved in the use of forged documents. --05В06--
