Haji Murads head will rejoin with his corpse buried in Qakh region

Baku/26.01.19/Turan: Deputy of the Russian State Duma Jamaludin Omarov posted his acknowledgment to the Duma"s leadership and President Putin for their assistance to the Committee he coordinated in obtaining permit for a scull of Haji Murad, a historical and literary hero.

The Public CommitteeОбщественный "Heritage of Leo Tolstoy and Dagestan" labored to return Haji Murad"s scull current stored at Petersburg Kunstkamera. Note that Haji Murad"s headless corpse was buried near a motorway between Baku and Balaken, Azerbaijan, on a territory of Qakh region.

Presidential culture advisor Vladimir Tolstoy visited Dagestan in 2012 to attend unveiling of the Leo Tolstoy memorial. He was asked "to rejoin remains of Haji Murad". In 2012 V. Tolstoy held talks with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and enlisted his support.

"President of Azerbaijan promised to render us necessary aid", Jamaludin Omarov told a press-conference in Makhachkala.

Members of the Committee have repeatedly sought help from the Spiritual Board of Moslems and mufti of Dagestan. "We discussed a matter of reburial of Haji Murad"s remains. We tried to clarify whether it was possible to rebury his remains in Hunzah. But we were told that we should not do it", Omarov said.

All descendants of Haji Murad "dreamt of reconnecting his remains", a lineal descendant of Haji Murad, Magomedarip Hajimuradov told a press-conference.

"My grandfather Badavi visited his father"s tomb every year, and he set a tombstone there. All Haji Murad"s descendants dreamt of burying his scull but failed. This dream was passed on from generation to generation. I"ve dealt with the matter since 1992. And I"d like my dream to come true before I depart out of this world", Hajimuradov emphasized.

Descendants of Shamil"s naib are minded to bury Haji Murad"s skull together with his remains in a tomb located in Azerbaijan. At present, Haji Murad"s remains lie in a village of Tangyt, Qakh region of Azerbaijan. In the words of historian Majid Mehrani, a group of researchers led by well-known Azerbaijani archaeologist Mamedali Huseynov succeeded to prove in 1957-1958 that Haji Murad"s corpse was buried in the tomb mentioned above. It was clearly shown that a man without a head was buried in the tomb. In the 1980-s the researchers got down to this subject again, inquired into the remains to finalize that Haji Murad was buried in the tomb.

A participant of the liberation struggle of Caucasian mountaineers Haji Murad was born in the Dagestan village of Hunzah. He was a naib of Imam Shamil during the Caucasian war; however, there happened a breach in relations in 1851 between Shamil and his naib. On November 23 (December 5) 1851 Haji Murad fled to Chechnya and went over to the tsarist government which intended to avail of Haji Murad"s fame among mountaineers and thus bring them on its side. However, in April1852 Haji Murad mistrusting Russians ran away to mountains and on April 23 (May 5) 1852 was killed in a shoot-out near Nuha (now town of Sheki in Azerbaijan). A tale "Haji Murad" by L. N. Tolstoy is devoted to the last period of life of Shamil"s naib, a Haji Murad"s biography notes.
