Human rights activists demand the release of all those arrested on October 19
Baku /23.10.19 / Turan: The Committee against Repression and Torture issued a statement condemning the dispersal of the peaceful protest of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) on October 19 in Baku.
Peaceful demonstrations are guaranteed by the Constitution and the law on freedom of assembly, but the rally was severely suppressed by security forces. Over 300 people were detained, including journalists, women, adolescents and the elderly.
Opposition leaders: Ali Karimli, Tofig Yagublu and Ibrahim Ibrahimli were brutally tortured.
"More than 30 people are under administrative arrest illegally, a criminal case has been instituted against PFPA activist Pasha Umudov, who was arrested for three months," the statement said.
Unfortunately, the General Prosecutor"s Office is trying to justify the brutal actions of the police, instead of taking action against the perpetrators.
On October 20, police also violently dispersed a rally of women protesting against domestic violence. Those who demanded an "end to violence" were themselves abused by the police.
The violation of the rights of the military who died in the case of high treason in Terter continues. The judge Mirbakhaddin Huseynov drove out the families of the dead soldiers from the courtroom in Sheki, protecting those who were involved in the deaths of the military.
In prisons, pressure is exerted on those who communicate with prisoners on the Ganja Deal. Therefore, political prisoner Ahsan Nuruzade for this was transferred to another colony with worse conditions.
Many political prisoners have health problems: Rukhulla Akhundzade, Fuad Akhmedli, Shamil Abdullaliev, Jahid Balakishiyev and others.
The Committee against Repression and Torture believes that strict measures should be taken against violators of human rights, including those involved in the crackdown on protests on October 19 and 20. All those arrested, including political prisoners, must be unconditionally released.
Judges who have issued false and unfair sentences in the Ganja and Terter cases must be dismissed and put on trial, the statement said. -06D-
