Interior Ministry rejects accusations of planting drugs on citizen

A day later, the Interior Ministry reacted to shocking video footage on social networks, where a police officer slips a package into the pocket of a citizen and then detains him with violence.

The Interior Ministry said in a statement: ‘Footage of the detention of a suspect by a police officer has spread in social networks. In this regard, the head of the media and public relations department of the Interior Ministry Major Anar Gafarov said that the video footage reflects the events of 5 years ago in Sabunchu district.

During the operative action a man behaved suspiciously, so a police officer approached him.  For willful disobedience to a lawful demand of the police, he was detained with a throw and then taken to the police station for questioning.

Investigation established that the man had no connection to other suspects who were being sought in the area. An administrative offence report was drawn up for his aggressive behavior and he was fined AZN 50.

Therefore, drug accusations and other unfounded allegations do not reflect the truth,’ the report said.

There are many contradictions and inconsistencies in this report. First of all, there is a question: if the man was not guilty and had nothing to do with those wanted by the police, why was he fined?

That he behaved aggressively? How should a normal person react if an unknown person sticks something in his pocket?

By the way, the report does not say that the police apologized to the citizen who was mistaken for a criminal.

All these actions contradict the Law "On Police", which should guide the officers of this department.--
