Japan Government Supports Improvement of Waste Management System in Gakh

  On October 18th, the signing ceremony for the Project “Improvement of Waste Management System in Gakh Region” will be held at the building of Executive Committee of Gakh region. According to a press release from the Embassy of Japan to Azerbaijan, the Grant Contract on the Project will be signed from Japanese side by H.E. Ambassador Mr. Shusuke Watanabe.

The project aims to establish a practical and sustainable waste management system through construction of waste storing and recycling facilities. 18,675 people will benefit from this project. The total amount of the Japanese Grant Assistance for this project is about USD 116, 185.  Including this specific project, 5 projects have been contracted in the Gakh region.    

“Grassroots and Human Security Grant Assistance Programme” support projects applied by municipalities, medical institutions, and NGOs, aimed directly at improving the living standards of Azerbaijani people. Such projects might be implemented in the field of poverty reduction, social protection, infrastructure, public health and increase of incomes. The total number of projects contracted in Azerbaijan including is 172, worth $13,972,038USD.

The total amount of Japan’s Official Development Assistance provided for the Republic of Azerbaijan is over $1 billion, covering a wide range of areas such as improvement of economic infrastructure, agricultural and social sectors, cultural field as well as human capacity development. -0-
