Baku / 13.07.17 / Turan: A preparatory meeting was held in Tbilisi City Court on July 12 on the case of Farman Jeyranov, an Azerbaijani surgeon and co-founder of the Lancet Clinic in the Georgian capital.
Jeyranov's lawyer told Radio Azadlig that a group of lawyers headed by Gela Nikolashvili defends the surgeon. The lawyers have filed a petition to replace the real arrest with a domestic one, but the court rejected the motion, arguing that Jeyranov might abscond.
The trial will continue on July 25.
Jeyranov's lawyers believe his arrest is politically motivated. It is known that representatives of the Azerbaijani opposition were treated in his clinic. -0--

As part of the struggle against illegal migration in Baku city, operative actions were carried out at different addresses. The Interior Ministry reports that employees of the Department for Combating Illegal Migration identified and detained 34 foreigners without documents giving the right to reside and stay on the territory of Azerbaijan.

During the operation of the Main Drug Control Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 5 members of an organized group engaged in drug trafficking were detained. All of them have previous convictions: Bahlul Ismayilov, Royal Aliyev, Khayal Aliyev, Samir Aghayev, and Ali Mammadli.
