Khadija Ismayilova Accused Judge of Abusing Law
At the trial of the journalist Khadija Ismayilova the journalist declined the judge Ramella Allahverdiyeva today. Ismayilova motivated this by Allahverdiyeva’s biased attitude and violations of procedural norms. In particular, Ismayilova said that she was not provided copies of the documents from the criminal case.
Next Ismayilova said that the judge threatened her with a prison sentence of 15 years, when the journalist refused to answer questions from the prosecutor.
In addition, the judge ignored her request to call witnesses, whose testimonies were very important for the truth.
Ismayilova also announced that she had not been allowed to meet privately with her lawyers and the judge did not provide that. Given all this, Ismayilova proposed to transfer the case to another judge.
Ismayilova said the judge turned the court to a “concubine of the prosecutor office.” “I do not want to see this abuse of the law,” said Ismayilova.
However, the removal of the judge was not satisfied.
Ismayilova also petitioned for being provided the court records and for summoning the lawyer for Radio Azadlig, Aslan Ismayilov. These requests were not satisfied either. The trial will continue until August 18. -16D--
