Lawyer Says He Was Not Allowed Access to Opposition Activists
Baku / 22.05.19 / Turan: Lawyer Yavar Huseyn has so far not been allowed to meet his clients - the activists of the Popular Movement of Azerbaijan (PMA) Ilyas Abdullayev and Yavar Mikailov, who were detained on 18 May.
The defender said he has reason to believe that they are being held at the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDCOC) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The GDCOC denies the presence of the activists there, although there is no official response to the request. The day before the the lawyer appealed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor General"s Office to clarify the fate of the detainees, but there was no answer from there either. On May 22, the lawyer appealed to the Narimanov District Court for the restoration of his rights and admission to his defendants. -16B06-
