Lawyers demand to justify residents of Ismayilli region
Today;s trial in the case of the events in Ismayilli was attended by the representatives of the embassies of the United States, France, Norway and the EU; the floor was given to lawyers.
The lawyer Aydin Gafarov said that there was no evidence against his client, a local resident Mamedov. The police demanded from him to give false evidence against the other defendants; as Mamedov refused, he himself was accused in the riots, said the lawyer.
A lawyer Islam Ismailov also said his Elshan Ismailly was innocent, and the investigation tried to present him as a "partner" of Ilgar Mamedov, a leader of REAL Movement and deputy chairman of "Musavat" Tofig Yagublu.
The lawyers also pointed to the wrong qualification by the investigation the charges under Articles 220.1 (riots) and 315.2 (resisting the police by using force, and threat to life and health.) The lawyer said that not any policeman was seriously injured.
A lawyer Safaraliev Suleymanov protecting the rights of Aydin Jabbarov and Etibar Agamalyev also said that his clients were innocent. He noted that at the preliminary investigation former Minister of Labor, Fizuli Alekperov, put pressure on the investigation , because during the riots was burned a hotel belonging to his son.
A lawyer Firudun Gurbanov said about the innocence of his clients, Elshan Gurbanov and Khayal Sharanova. He pointed out that Gurbanov is physically disabled, and could not participate in the riots.
Sharanov, who worked at a construction site of the hotel "Chirag", took away the furniture to protect it from fire. Because of the arrest Sharanov’s pregnant wife suffered stress, and a child that was born needs surgery, but the family is deprived of a breadwinner.
