LGBT calls for respect of their rights
At the press conference on Friday the current organization in Azerbaijan “Peace for LGBT” presented the photos. The event was held in a business centers of the capital. On a photo shoot titled "Z-53" members of the LGBT community are represented in the religious, national and legal context. Photo were taken against a background of Parliament, mosques and hotels Flame Towers.
According to Gulara Azimzade, the head of the "Peace for LGBT", the organizers of the photo shoot were intended to cause "shock effect" in order to get people interested. "We want poeple began to discuss the issue, which had previously been under a taboo," she said, noting that there are many believers in the LGBT.
"No one can deprive them of their belief. People on social networks curse them. Therefore, we present the photos in the religious, legal and national context," said Azimzade. According to her, LGTB is reality, although society does not accept that.
"Our message is: We are, we have somethning to say. We have freedom of expression, and we enjoy it. These photo is a protest against intolerable discrimination accumulated over the years in a homophobic society. We are not ashamed. You have to accept it," said Azimzade.
Psychotherapist Elmir Akbar declared the irrelevance of sharp statements about sexual minorities.
"We should encourage people to dialogue. It would be good if members of Parliament speak on this issue, as it is in European countries. There is a need for a healthy dialogue," he said.
“Peace for LGBT” was established in 2013, however, today's event was held semi-secretly. -16D-
