President Ilham Aliyev made a weekend trip to the north-western region of the country and visited Gabala, Sheki and Zagatala.
The program of the visit was not original and consisted of laying flowers at the monument to Heydar Aliyev, the opening of schools and other facilities.
However, one of the real reasons for the trip was to learn about the situation in the earthquake zone in the Zagatala area, where dozens of villages were destroyed in the spring of this year. So far, the restoration of housing in this area has not been arranged properly, causing the growth of social tensions and grievances. -02B-

During search and operational activities, on January 30 at 11:20, 16.4 kg of drugs were discovered and seized in the area of the "Geytapa" border post, located on the Iran-Azerbaijan border. According to the Azerbaijan Border Service, this prevented an attempt to smuggle into Azerbaijan 11.3 kg of marijuana, 5.1 kg of opium, and 1,990 methadone M-40 pills from Iran.
