Baku/25.04.22/Turan: The public is widely discussing the abduction and beating the public activist Bahtiyar Hajiyev by unknown persons and unambiguously condemn those responsible for this crime. On April 23, Bahtiyar Hajiyev wrote on his Facebook page that on April 21, at about 23:00, he was seized at the intersection of M. Nakhchivani and Z. Ahmedbekov streets (near the Caspian Plaza business center) by 4 unknown persons in masks.
According to the activist, they put a bag over his head and took him away to an unknown destination. Then they blindfolded him, put on headphones and tied his hands.
Unknown people began to interrogate him - "who instructed to criticize the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Vilayat Eyvazov?" Hearing that he was not receiving any instructions, they undressed him and demanded to delete posts (on social networks) about Vilayat Eyvazov and Fuad Muradov (a pro-government activist). According to Hajiyev, they began to urinate on him, filming it on camera.
“They warned me that if I continue to criticize the minister, they would rape and kill me. After that, they closed my eyes again and took me away in an unknown direction,” he said.
Later, Hajiyev was thrown out of the car in a deserted place, away from roads and housing, with his hands and eyes tied with tape. Later it turned out that this place is located near the village of Ramana.
Hajiyev believes that if the perpetrators of this heinous crime are not found and punished, then the responsibility for this will fall on the Minister of Internal Affairs.
Bahtiyar Hajiyev was admitted to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Minister of Internal Affairs Colonel-General Vilayat Eyvazov listened to Hajiyev and promised that an investigation would be carried out in connection with his statement, informed him and he would be informed of the progress of the investigation, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The head of the Institute of Civil Rights, Bashir Suleymanli, commented on the incident with Bahtiyar Hajiyev in the program "Difficult Question".
According to him, the incident with Bahtiyar Hajiyev is a serious violation of the law. “An unlawful act in the mafia style was committed against a citizen. Attacks, beatings, intimidation of public figures and politicians have happened before. But putting pressure on citizens in such a crude, mafia style is something out of the ordinary. We demand that law enforcement agencies identify and bring to justice the perpetrators of this criminal act,” he said.
Suleymanli admitted that if earlier the perpetrators and organizers of such attacks on public figures, media representatives and the opposition had been stopped, then there would have been no incident with Bahtiyar Hajiyev.
“The public must ensure that law enforcement agencies identify and punish the persons who committed the abduction of Hajiyev, as well as those who previously committed similar crimes against other citizens,” Suleymanli said.
According to the human rights activist, the desire to turn a blind eye to such events can become a problem for the authorities themselves. “Therefore, the government should seriously think about it and take real steps to identify the criminals,” he said. –0—
