Mentally ill alcoholic is convicted of setting fire to drug center
Baku/15.05.19/Turan: On May 15, the Baku Serious Crimes Court sentenced a group of people found guilty of a fire in March 2018 in the Republican Narcological Center, where 25 people died.
Mohammed Mamedov accused of arson was sentenced to life imprisonment.
The director of the center, Telman Mamedgasov, received four years, Mahir Abdullayev, responsible for labor safety, 3.5 years, the doctor Afat Mammadov, five years of imprisonment.
According to the investigation materials, Mohammed Mamedov was treated at the Center after mental disorders from alcoholism.
He admitted that he decided to commit suicide because of the poor attitude of family members to him and his unwillingness to heal. On March 2, at 6 o'clock in the morning, he set fire to his blanket, but then he was frightened and ran out of the ward, leaving a burning blanket.
Mamedov was found guilty under articles about the premeditated murder of several persons, committed in a particularly dangerous way, and deliberately destroying property, with grave consequences. -02D-
