Mother of student arrested in Iran asks Azerbaijani leadership for help
Baku/02.06.23/Turan: Dilara Askerova, mother of Azerbaijani citizen Farid arrested in Iran on espionage charges, has applied to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva with a request to assist in her son's release.
The appeal, published on Askerova's Facebook account, says: "I have not been able to get information about my son, who went to Iran to see his girlfriend, for three months now.
Yesterday the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry informed me in a letter that my son had been detained in Iran on espionage charges. I believe Farid has fallen victim to the conflict between Azerbaijan and Iran.
"Mehriban khanum, Farid is your son Heydar's fellow student at ADA University. You, as a mother, will understand me better," Askerova writes.
Addressing Ilham Aliyev, she writes: "Mister President, Farid has been left without protection in Iran. Provide assistance to ensure a lawyer, to create conditions for me to meet with him. I trust that on behalf of the Azerbaijani State you will protect Farid and achieve his reunification with his family.
In turn, head of the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Aikhan Hajizadeh in response to Turan Agency's request, said that immediately after receiving information about the disappearance of the Azerbaijani citizen in Iran, the Ministry sent a note to the Iranian Embassy in Baku on March 9.
After numerous appeals the Iranian side finally reported on the arrest of Safarli and initiation of a criminal case against him. The family of Farid Safarli was informed accordingly. Despite the limitations of the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission in Iran due to the well-known terrorist incident against the Azerbaijani Embassy on January 27, the Foreign Ministry and Consulate General in Tabriz are holding discussions with relevant Iranian structures and are in contact with Safarli himself, Hajizadeh said.
"The Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Tabriz is taking measures to hold a meeting with Farid Safarli," the representative of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said.
Recall that Farid Safarli is a student at one of the German universities. He went to Iran in February at the invitation of his student girlfriend. A few days later, contacts with him were lost. -05В06-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
