NIDA activist Uzeyir Mammedli refuses to testify in court
At the trial in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, in the case of seven activists of the NIDA Movement and a member of the organization "Free Youth", the testimony of the accused Uzeyir Mammadov was read.
Since he refused to testify, the judge read his testimony at the preliminary investigation.
First it was stated that, in the beginning, Mammadov gave testimony as a witness, and subsequently twice as a defendant.
During the testimony, the accused rejected the alleged accusations of preparing riots using "Molotov cocktails". Terming the allegations unfounded, Mammedli connected them with his political activities.
On September 12, when Mammadov was charged with organizing the riots, he refused to testify at all. Mammadov said in court he is a supporter of a democratic society, and in this struggle is committed to exclusively peaceful means.
Father of the dead soldier Bayaly Azizov, attending the court trial, exclaimed from his place that the defendants were not guilty. "If it is necessary, arrest us. These young people were protesting against the deaths of soldiers," said the father of the dead soldier.
In turn, the judge Javid Huseynov cautioned against pleadings without the judge’s permission.
