October 9 - presidential elections in Azerbaijan
October 9 in Azerbaijan is the day of presidential elections. In the vote 5,491 sites will be open to about 5,145,000 voters. This includes 218 institutions and 38 diplomatic missions abroad.
The ballot includes the names of 10 candidates - Igbal Aghazadeh , Ilham Aliyev , Araz Alizadeh, Hafiz Hajiyev , Gudret Gasanguliev , Jamil Gasanli , Ilyas Ismailov, Faraj Guliyev , Sardar Mammadov and Zahid Orudj.
According to the CEC, the elections will be observed by around 40,000 accredited local observers, as well as 300 members of the OSCE ODIHR.
The voting will begin at 8.00 and end at 19.00.
During this time, CEC will report five times (at 10.00, 12.00, 15.00, 17.00 , and 19.00) on the voting process .
A synthesis of the results of voting at polling stations and districts will be posted on the CEC website.
Final protocols from polling stations will be sent to the district election commissions no later than 24 hours after the completion of the voting and the district election commissions no later than 2 days after the election have to pass the final protocols to the CEC. After that, the CEC will immediately announce the preliminary results of the elections.
Up to 19 October, the CEC shall submit final reports to the Constitutional Court, which, in 14 days shall announce the results of the election.
After that, the president-elect for three days has to take an oath to assume his responsibilities.
Note that quorum is not necessary for the presidential election. The winner is to receive 50 % plus one vote of the total number of voters who participated in the election.
The mission of the OSCE ODIHR on October 10 at 14.30 is to announce its initial assessments of compliance with the international election standards. -03B06-

Last night, three earthquakes occurred along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border with magnitudes of 4.8, 3.0, and 3.8, according to the Republican Center for Seismological Service of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported no information about any destruction or casualties as a result of the earthquakes.
