Oqtay Gyulalyev is trying to write
Baku/23.06.21/Turan: The health of human rights defender Ogtay Gyulalyev continues to improve. “He is already holding a fountain pen and is trying to write something,” said his wife Firuza Gyulalyeva.
The director of Turan agency Mehman Aliyev, who regularly visits Ogtay on weekends, noticed that he began to respond more clearly to questions, giving answers in a whisper or motion of his hands.
Oqtay is more open with the nurses of the Institute of Medical Rehabilitation, who carry out procedures with him throughout the day thanks to the support of the Joint Administration of Territorial Medical Units (TƏBİB).
“We talk to him, we joke and he responds, laughs,” the nurse said. Ogtay has already started taking liquid by mouth and its intake is increasing every day. At the end of April, a tracheostomy was removed from the throat, which was installed a year and a half ago to remove sputum from the lungs and generally facilitate breathing. This allowed him to regain normal breathing. The swallowing reflex is restored.
“We hope that after the wound in his throat has healed completely, speech will be restored and he will take food by mouth. Until now, liquid food enters the stomach directly through the gastrostomy tube,” said F. Gyulalyeva.
The good news came from the State Agency for Medical, Social Expertise, and Rehabilitation under the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population. Fixed a bug in the presentation of disability to Ogtay Gyulalyev. The family was informed that a decision on granting disability would be made as soon as possible.
Ogtay Gyulalyev was hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing in the center of Baku on October 29, 2019. He was promptly taken to the Ambulance Hospital. M. Nagiyev, then to the private clinic Baku City Hospital. He was operated on only in the afternoon of October 30, by the surgeons of the Republican Neurosurgical Hospital after instructions from above. Then, with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Gyulalyev underwent treatment in Turkey for a year.
On January 25, 2021, the prosecutor's office began a re-investigation of the actions of Azerbaijani doctors that led to brain damage to Ogtay Gyulalyev.-0--
