Pardon Commission considers appeals
Baku/28.04.22/Turan: Since 26 April the Presidential Pardon Commission has considered over 100 appeals.
The commission told Turan that the pardon order may be timed to coincide with 28 May, Independence Day.
In turn, a member of the monitoring group of the Azerbaijani human rights organizations, Novella Jafaroglu reported that the organization submitted documents to the Pardon Commission to pardon 37 prisoners. According to her, the list includes journalists, bloggers, human rights activists, media leaders and others.
Jafaroglu listed names of some individuals who are asked for pardon by human rights activists - PPFA activist Saleh Rustamov, businessman Shamsi Samedzadeh sentenced to life imprisonment, former MP Huseyn Abdullayev.
It is worth mentioning that the last pardon decree was signed on March 18, 2021. At that time, 475 convicts were released, while 98 people were given half sentences without serving their sentences.-05D06-
