Party of People's Front of Azerbaijan to hold protest action in front of Baku City Hall
Baku/19.10.22/Turan: The Party of People's Front of Azerbaijan (PPFA) has decided to hold a protest action in front of the Baku City Hall on 24 October at 16:00 demanding the freedom of assembly.
An appropriate notice was sent to the city administration, said the chairman of the PPFA Ali Kerimli.
According to him, the main demand of the action will be the removal of the actual ban on freedom of assembly.
"On September 30, 177 activists were detained before and during the PPFA action. Most were detained before the rally started as they were leaving their homes. This is further evidence of the lack of the freedom of assembly in the country. The authorities are restricting the freedom of assembly so that people can''t gather and raise the problems of the country before the government,'' Kerimli said.
Among the problems worrying the citizens Kerimli named unemployment, sharp rise in prices, suicides of veterans, lack of benefits for children, low incomes of the population, etc.
The protesters are also going to demand the release of political prisoners and the opening of land borders.
"The lives of many of our compatriots in Russia are still in danger. They should be able to reach their homeland by land," Kerimli said.
The rally will call for free elections and radical democratic reforms.
Meanwhile, the executive power in Baku rejected the PPFA's request to hold the rally, considering it inexpedient.
In turn, member of the PPFA Presidium Vahid Maharramli told Turan that the action will take place in any case, as the response of the city authorities is unlawful. -06В-
