PFPA Activist Arrested for Thirty Days
A youth activist of the Surakhani district branch of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Amil Mammadzadeh has been arrested for 30 days.
On February 20 Surakhani District Court found him guilty of committing an administrative offense of "not subordinating the police."
Turan was told by the Deputy Chairman of PFPA Gozal Bayramli.
According to her, the young man was summoned to the 30th police precinct of the Surakhani District Police Office on February 19 under the pretext of violation of traffic rules. There he was detained by police for allegedly not subordinating them, and on February 20 Mammadzadeh appeared before the court.
As Bayramli noted, the young man was arrested on trumped-up charges because of his opposition activities. "This is a continuation of repression against the PFPA," said Bayramli.
She pointed to periodic administrative arrests of PFPA activists. In addition, about 10 party activists are imprisoned on criminal charges.
The police do not comment on the reasons for Mammadzadeh's arrest. -03B06--
