A 35 year old resident of Sharur region, Namizad Seidov was unable to tolerate harassment by the local traffic police and attempted suicide before the eyes of the police. The attempt of suicide was caused by physical violence of police forcibly dragged Seidov out of the car, tied and then beat him. Seeing that Seyidov inflicted a wound, police left the scene without assisting the victim.
According to a Turan correspondent, Namizad Seidov had been unemployed and earned his living working as a cab driver.
The police did not give him the opportunity to work, and also extorted money.
Seidova was taken to a hospital by onlookers. Doctors noted a wound of moderate severity. The police came to the hospital, but did not accept Seidov’s explanations. Furthermore, Seidov was threatened on the phone, so he did not proceed. However, Seidov intends to appeal to the Prosecutor Office and Human Rights organizations. If it does not help, Seidov will start an indefinite hunger strike.
Responding an appeal of Turan correspondent on the matter, the Office of Traffic Police of Nakhchivan, said they were unaware of the case. -05D04-
