Preliminary Investigation in Ali Insanov Case Closes
Preliminary investigation of new charges against the former Health Minister Ali Insanov is nearing completion.
Currently Insanov and his lawyers are getting acquainted with the case materials.
As the lawyer Togrul Babayev told Turan, the defense will make a number of motions, after which the case will be sent to the court.
It should be reminded that Insanov has been detained since October 2005. Initially, he was accused of attempting a coup d'état, but then was sentenced to 11 years on economic charges. Despite the fact that the Strasbourg court found violation of Insanov's rights, the verdict against him was upheld.
In October 2016, 9 days before the end of Insanov's sentence new charges were raised against him – of illegal possession of drugs, resistance to supervisors, and storage of a prohibited object. On this basis, he was again arrested.
Insanov complained to the ECHR about the new arrest, considering the charges fabricated.
At the same time, at the request of the prosecutor's office, the arrest of Insanov was prolonged until March 31. -03B-
