Press Review January 23, 2018

The attitude to the order signed by President Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the genocide of Azerbaijanis, the situation in the insurance market, and the "brain drain" from the country are the leading topics of today's press.

The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the order of Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the genocide of Azerbaijanis and gives various opinions on this issue.

Deputy Musa Gasimli believes that this order carries socio-political, moral and psychological significance. For the sake of the idea of Great Armenia, the Azerbaijani Turks were subjected to genocide and deported from their native places. One of these genocides took place in 1918.

Doctor of Philosophy in History Vagif Gafarov believes that this order is a response to the repeated mass destruction of Azerbaijani Turks in the twentieth century.

The newspaper Echo published an article on the crisis in the banking system.

The problems of banks are directly reflected in the activities of insurance companies. If the banks do not soon start to exit the crisis, in particular, if they do not resume lending, it will badly affect the insurance market and lead to the liquidation of insurance companies.

After 2011, Azerbaijani banks reduced the volume of lending for the insurance market by almost two times. Insurance companies cannot fully work. In turn, credit institutions for obvious reasons do not want to cooperate with insurers. It is easier for banks to issue small consumer loans at high interest rates and lower maturities than to issue long-term loans at minimum interest rates.

The website Azadliqinfo.az writes about the "brain drain" from the country. Those who have stayed in the country are themselves brainwashed by the authorities. According to expert studies, 120 thousand people with higher education left Azerbaijan over the past 10 years. Most of those who left the country are people aged 25 to 34 years. The author calls this a serious loss.
