Ilham Aliyev�s Meetings at Davos Forum
Baku / 23.01.18 / Turan: Within the framework of participation at the World Davos Economic Forum, the President of Azerbaijan held a number of business meetings.
The program of the visit began with a meeting with Berg Brand, the President of the World Economic Forum. The meeting noted the fruitful cooperation between the World Economic Forum and Azerbaijan, the website of the President of Azerbaijan said.
Further, the head of state met with the CEO of Royal Phillips, France van Houten, with the member of the Board of MasterCard Tim Murphy, and also with the Executive Vice President and General Financial Director of CISCO Kelly Kramer.
In addition, the President of Azerbaijan received the Vice President of Chevron for Corporate Business Development, Jay Prior. Noting the high level of partnership between Chevron and Azerbaijan, Jay Prior expressed confidence that it will continue successfully in the future.
In the framework of the Davos Forum Ilham Aliyev also met with the head of the Russian company Lukoil Vaghit Alekperov.
The Azerbaijani President also met with the head of the Supervisory Board and the Executive Director of the American company Black Rock, Lawrence Fink.
The forum itself starts today under the motto Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World.
Ilham Aliyev will speak at the forum today.
On January 23, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modry will also address the forum, and on the final day, Friday, the speech of US President Donald Trump, who advocates protectionist policy under the slogan America First, is expected.
In addition to Trump and Modi, the program of the forum includes about 70 heads of state and government, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Theresa May and European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker. -06D--

On September 11, the Baku Court of Appeal heard the appeal of Hafiz Babali, the economics editor at Turan News Agency, against the newspaper "Iki Sahil." The appeal was filed in response to a May 13 decision by the Khatai District Court, which rejected Babali's lawsuit against the newspaper. The lawsuit was initiated due to unfounded accusations and defamation published by the newspaper in an article dated December 28, 2023. The article claimed that "Hafiz Babali had established contacts with foreign funds and conducted investigations and prepared articles on their behalf."

At a meeting on September 12, the Central Election Commission (CEC) found no violations in the parliamentary elections held on September 1 at seven polling stations in the 33rd Khatai First Electoral District. The complaint was filed by Natig Jafarli, a parliamentary candidate and member of the political committee of the REAL party. In this district, the CEC considers Zahid Oruj, the head of the Center for Social Research and a member of the previous parliament, to be the leading candidate.

France has condemned the "arbitrary and overtly discriminatory treatment" of French citizen Théo Clerc in Azerbaijan, who has been sentenced to three years in prison for graffiti in the metro. Meanwhile, two other defendants involved in the same actions were sentenced only to fines, according to a statement from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
