Prosecutor General’s Office Launches Criminal Cases on Eggs and Drugs

The Azerbaijani Prosecutor General's Office has launched a criminal case on the facts of artificial overpricing of medicines and eggs.

On the evening of January 12 the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office reported that as a result of immediate operative-investigative activities carried out by the General Directorate for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General found that the manager of the company Alfa Med Ibadullah Huseynov repeatedly sold the drug Grateziano at a price that is much greater than its real value.

During the search conducted at the company's warehouse they discovered many medicines without a customs declaration.

At the same time it was revealed that the company sold 48 types of medicines and medical supplies at prices above the rates established by the Tariff Council.

On the basis of the collected materials a criminal case was filed under articles 308.1 (Abuse of power), and 200.1 (Deceit of consumers or the production and marketing of defective products). The founder and real head of LLC Alfa Med Afghan Khudaverdiyev and its manager Ibadullah Huseynov were detained as suspects.

Currently, operative-investigative measures are taken to detect and prosecute other members of the criminal network.

In addition, the monitoring carried out by the State Service for Antimonopoly Policy and Consumer Protection under the Ministry of Economy and Industry revealed that officials of the poultry farms Ltd. Gilazi Gushchulug Shirketi, LLC Hajigabul Gushchulug Shirketi and LLC Astel Ltd exceeded their authority, engaged in the retail sale of eggs at inflated prices. The due reports were sent to the General Directorate for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General. On the basis of the collected reports on January 12, 2016 a criminal case was filed under articles 308.1 and 200.1. Currently, operative-investigative measures are taken to bring to justice those responsible. -06D--
