Prosecutor Proposes to Imprison Theologian for Twelve Years
Today Baku Court of Grave Crimes at the trial of the chief of a department of the Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO) Elshan Mustafaoglu heard the final statement of the prosecutor.
The prosecutor offered to sentence Mustafaoglu to 12 years in prison, finding him guilty of treason.
The next court hearing is scheduled for December 13.
The defendant's lawyer Afgan Mammadov told Turan that the prosecutor's offer was unreasonable and in the criminal case there are no tangible facts or evidence proving the guilt of Mustafaoglu. He was arrested in December 2014 and charged under Article 274 (treason) of the Criminal Code.
Mustafaoglu has been included in the list of 166 political prisoners prepared by several human rights organizations in the country. -05B06--
