Prosecutor proposes to sentence journalist E.Ismayilli to 10 years in prison
Baku / 08.09.17 / Turan: The investigation of the case of journalist ElchinIsmayilli ended in the Sheki Serious Crimes Court today. Today the prosecutor said a concluding speech, and proposed to sentence the journalist to 10 years in prison, said attorney ElchinSadygov.The defense believes that the investigation did not prove the guilt of the journalist and intends to ask for an acquittal.The defense will speak on September 15. An independent journalist ElchinIsmayilli was arrested on February 17.He was charged under articles 182 (extortion of money by threats) and 308 (abuse of office) of the Criminal Code. In early August, he was charged with another accusation under the Article 311 (receiving a bribe). On these charges, he faces 8 to 12 years of imprisonment."
According to the accusation, the journalist extorted money from the employee of the department of culture and tourism. The latter appealed to the Ministry of National Security, whose employees arrested the journalist.According to the lawyer, the case was falsified and the journalist was arrested for his professional activities. -06D-
