Prosecutor Speaks at MNS Officers� Trial
Baku / 13.11.17 / Turan: The prosecutor held a final speech at the Baku military court on the case of two former high-ranking officials of the liquidated Ministry of National Security (MNS).
The figurants of this case are the former head of the Anti-Terrorism Center, Major-General Elchin Guliyev and his deputy, Colonel Azer Mehdiyev.
The prosecutor offered to sentence Guliyev to 15 years, and Mehdiyev - to 13 years in prison. They are accused of committing a number of serious crimes, including extortion through threats, bribery, excess and abuse of official authority, etc.
Personnel cleansing and arrests in the MNS began in October 2015 after the removal of the head of this department Eldar Mahmudov. About 20 senior officers of the department were arrested, and the special service itself was disbanded. On its basis, the State Security Service and the Foreign Intelligence Service were created.
Several of the former high-ranking officers have already been sentenced to long prison terms.-16D06-
