Prosecutors Raided Apartment of Gulnara Akhundova
Yesterday the staff of the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General for Serious Crimes raided the apartment of the mother of Gulnara Akhundova, representative of international organizations in support of the media (IMS).
The search was conducted after Javahir Akhundova was questioned by the prosecutor in a criminal case against a number of local and foreign NGOs.
During the search, nothing of interest to the investigation was found, the lawyer of the Institute of Reporters Freedom and Safety (IRFS) Gunay Ismayilova told Turan.
G. Akhundova itself currently resides abroad.
Observers believe the search is the authorities' response to the harsh criticism of Azerbaijani authorities by Akhundova for violation of human rights. This criticism was voiced last week in Madrid at a meeting of the PACE Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights. -06D-
