Ramil Guliyev Prepares to Improve European Record
Baku / 04.12.17 / Turan: The world champion in track and field athletics, sprinter Ramil Guliyev considers his main goal to improve the record of Europe in the run for a distance of 200 meters.
The 27-year-old athlete of Azerbaijani origin won the World Athletics Championships in 2017 in the 200 meters race and brought Turkey the first ever gold medal in the sprint.
Now Ramil Guliyev continues training in the Belek area in Antalya, preparing for the European and Mediterranean Games in 2018. As Ramil Guliyev told Anadolu News Agency, in view of the lack of sports opportunities in Azerbaijan, he decided to move to Turkey.
"It was necessary to find a place for training. Then it was very difficult to do in Azerbaijan. Athletes could not go abroad for training. I decided to go to Turkey, because this country is the closest to Azerbaijan. There were proposals from other countries, but I chose Turkey," the athlete said.
According to him, moving to Turkey was associated with a three-year ban on participation in international competitions and this was a difficult period in his life.
"I was going to win at the World Athletics Championship in London for 10 years," Guliyev said. "It was the third World Cup in which I participated. I participated in the final races, but I did not take prizes. Now my goal is to beat the European record at a distance of 200 meters, and then the world record. The program of my participation is completely ready, right up to the Olympics," Guliyev said. -02D-
