Baku/19.05.23/Turan: On May 18, the representatives of the Ombudsman's office visited Abbas Huseyn, an activist of the Muslim Unity Movement in the Baku pre-trial detention center-1. A few days ago, Huseyn's audio message was distributed on social networks, where he complained about torture in custody. "During the visit, a confidential conversation was held with Abbas Huseyn, his appeals were considered. Based on the appeals of Abbas Huseyn, measures are being taken," Emil Shahzade, head of the press service of the Ombudsman's office, told Turan.
Huseyn's mother Rahima Huseynova confirmed to Turan that three employees of the Ombudsman's office visited her son on May 18. "Abbas spent ten days on hunger strike in jail No. 1. However, yesterday, after being transferred to pre-trial detention center-1, he resumed eating.

A lawyer Fahraddin Mehdiyev said that Huseyn's transfer to the pre-trial detention center is connected with the upcoming meeting in the Baku Court of Appeal on May 24 in connection with a complaint about the tightening of Huseyn's detention regime and his transfer to the Gobustan prison.
*The head of the Union of Muslims movement, Taleh Bagirzade, Abbas Huseyn and a number of other religious figures were detained on November 26, 2015 as a result of a special operation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the village of Nardaran.
The detainees were accused of participating in a criminal group organized by Bagirzade. The court found them guilty of terrorism, illegal possession of weapons, an attempt to forcibly change the constitutional order, resisting the police and violating other Articles of the Criminal Code, and sentenced them to imprisonment for terms from 12 to 19 years.
