On Saturday, the US Embassy diplomats Zia Sayed and William Salt met with the leaders of the movement REAL in the office of the organization.
The Executive Secretary of REAL, Natig Jafarli, the members of the Board Erkin Gadirli, Azer Gasimov and Rasul Jafarov discussed with diplomats the socio-political situation in the country, the prospects for economic development, the situation surrounding illegal imprisonment of the leader of REAL Ilgar Mammadov and recent attacks on REAL by the authorities of Azerbaijan.

On December 25, an Embraer 190 passenger plane operated by Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC (AZAL), on a Baku–Grozny flight, crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan. Azerbaijan’s Consul General in Aktau, Ayxan Suleymanlı, stated that the plane had 67 people onboard, including crew members, 38 of whom died. According to him, 26 of the deceased were Azerbaijani citizens.
