Sambo Wrestlers Bring Four Silver Medals to Azerbaijan
Azerbaijani sambo wrestlers at the European Games won four silver medals, losing in the final matches on June 22.
In the weight category 52 kg Nazakat Khalilova was women's silver medalist.
Second place among the men in the weight category 57 kg was won by Islam Gazyumov.
In the weight category 74 kg the Azerbaijani representative Amil Gasimov also became the second. Finally, another "silver" was brought to Azerbaijan in the 100+ kg weight by Vasif Safarbekov.
Four Azerbaijani boxers won quarterfinal bouts on June 22 and thus secured some of the medals. Thus, Tayfur Aliyev (56 kg), Elvin Mamishzadeh (52 kg), Teymur Mammadov (81 kg) and Magomedrasul Majidov (91+ kg) entered the semi-finals.
They secured a minimum "bronze", as both losers in the semifinal fights are recognized third medal of the Games.
At the end of eleven days of competition in the medal standings Azerbaijan retains second place with 39 medals (14 gold, 11 silver and 14 bronze). Going in the first place, Russia still more increased the lead on June 22: 87 medals (45 gold, 23 silver and 19 bronze). In the third place is Germany, which has 32 medals (11-9-12). -06D--
