Sentence on Mamed Ibrahim Appealed
The lawyer for the Chairman of the Popular Front Party councilor Mamed Ibrahim Yalcin Imanov on March 31 filed an appeal against the sentence on his client sentenced to 3 years' imprisonment.
Imanov told Turan the defense asks to cancel the verdict and acquit Ibrahim.
Note that during the process in the first instance all the prosecution witnesses confirmed Ibrahim's innocence and no use of force against those who were consequently recognized as victims. Ibrahim also denied the charges, saying he was being persecuted for opposition political activity. Nevertheless, Narimanov Court on March 15 admitted Ibrahim guilty and sentenced him to 3 years in prison. Human rights organizations have recognized Ibrahim a political prisoner.
* M. Ibrahim was arrested on September 30 last year on charges of disorderly conduct (221.1) (the complaint was filed by Mikail Guliyev, a former member of the PFPA). Subsequently, this article was reclassified to a harder charge on Article 221.2.2, on which Ibrahim faced up to five years in prison. -06B-
