T.Abilov: the attack on Yashar Cafarli is not investigated
The head of the NGO "Officers in reserve and retired", Yashar Cafarli, believes that the attack on him on April 2 was made by order. He does not agree with the statement of an official representative of the Prosecutor General's Office that the attack was made on the basis of the conflict between him and the attackers.
"In my opinion, the attack was ordered. Police say they had passed the detainee to the Prosecutor Office, but the Prosecutor’s Office stated they have not received anybody. Investigation is not looking for a second assailant.
I believe that there were three participants in the crime. The third stood by and covered the two. However, the law enforcement authorities are not taking any measures," said Cafarli.
He said that a committee to protect his rights and a public committee to monitor the activities of law enforcement agencies were set up.
Telman Abilov, the Committee head to protect the rights of Cafarli, said that the attack on Cafarli is not being investigated.
According to Abilov, the detainee was with a cold gun. "Apparently those people wanted to kill Cafarli, or they wanted to intimidate him, to prevent his involvement in public activities," said Cafarli.
The military expert Uzeir Jafarov believes that the attackers were not representatives of the Defense Ministry.
"Someone has ordered the crime, it must be disclosed," said Jafarov.
An attack on Cafarli was made on April 2 at 21:30 in front of his house in the residential area of Yeni Yasamal. He called neighbors for help, and they managed to detain one of the attackers, and took him to the 29th branch of Yasamal District Police. The matter was then referred to the district Prosecutor Office.
However, because the detainee was a soldier, the case was referred to the Military Prosecutor Office.—16C06—
