The appeal of former head of the National Security Ministry of Nakhchivan
On 26 July the Supreme Court of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) held a preliminary hearing in the case of the former Minister of National Security of NAR Veli Alekperov. Hearings on the merits are scheduled for August 1, Turan was told by Vugar Hasayev, the lawyer of the former minister.
During the meeting the lawyer asked to acquit Alekperov, to consider the complaint and to conduct the trial, questioning officials who tortured the ex-Minister. No request was not granted.
On 24 June the Military Serious Crimes Court of Nakhchivan condemned Veli Aleskerov for 14 years, found him guilty of misappropriation, abuse of office and illegal wiretapping.
Aleskerov for 15 years headed the National Security Ministry of Nakhchivan. He was suddenly dismissed in December 2015. Shortly thereafter a lawsuit was filed against him. After keeping him under arrest, Alasgarov was released under house arrest, but was arrested again after he told the press about his innocence and torture during his arrest. On the results of the preliminary investigation Aleskerov was charged also with illegal wiretapping. -06B-
