The court’s decision in the case of Ilgar Mamedov postponed
Sheki Court of Appeal today re-considered the leader of the REAL Movement Ilgar Mammadov's complaint and deputy chairman of "Musavat" Tofig Yagublu. Mammadov and Yagublu were sentenced on charges of organizing riots in Ismayilli city in January 2013, and sentenced to 7 and 5 years' imprisonment respectively. The European Court of Human Rights found a violation of their rights during the arrest and took the decision to release them. On October 13, 2015, the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan considered the appeal, sent the case back for retrial in Sheki Appeal Court. After consideration the case was postponed several times, and Yagublu was released by the act of pardon on 17 March.
During today's meeting the defense of Mamedov petitioned to change the measure of restraint and release him from custody. It was stated that the European Court of Human Rights in May 2014 invalidated his arrest.
However, the court did not satisfy the complaint, told Turan's lawyer Fuad Agayev. Further protection applied for repeated viewing available in the video, as well as the admission of messages about events in Ismayilli, published by the media. The petition was granted, Agayev said. "Motion pictures speak for themselves and refute the prosecution," said the lawyer.
Mammadov and Yagublu were in court, and declared politically motivated harassment. Finally, the court announced that he was leaving for passing a ruling. Date of announcement will be announced next week.
The lawyer refrained from predictions, noting that, in accordance with the decision of the European Court, Mammadov was to be released at the end of 2014.
At the end of the meeting, Mammadov appealed to the audience, and said that there could be a new provocation against him and urged the public to keep it in focus.
"Amnesty International" recognized Yagublu and Mamedov “prisoners of conscience.”- 06B-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
