The health of the convict in the Nardaran case has deteriorated
Baku/13.05.19/Turan: The health of Abbas Huseynov, the Muslim Unity activist, who is serving a prison sentence, has sharply deteriorated, reported his sister Sevinj Huseynova.
According to her, the activist suffers from the consequences of torture, which he underwent during the investigation in the Office for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and then in the Gobustan prison.
"Abbas"s legs are already swollen for a long time, and after inflammation the temperature has risen. His health is very serious, but he is not transferred to a medical institution," Huseynova said.
In January, his brother was brutally tortured in Gobustan prison, after which he received a serious leg injury.
"When he was brought to the Baku pre-trial; detention center, his leg was swollen and blackened. From there he was secretly transferred to a medical institution and operated on. After Abbas got a little better, he was transferred to jail N8. However, now his leg has swelled up again and his temperature has risen and he is not able to stand," Huseynova said.
"Lawyers are being eliminated. First, Yalchin Imanov was removed, and now they want to punish Fariz Namazly. We cannot find a lawyer to help us," said Huseynova. On May 13, she turned to the Ombudsman"s Office.
The public relations department of the Prison Service denied the allegation of not providing the necessary medical assistance to Huseynov. Decisions on transfer to a medical institution are based on doctor"s opinion, they said in this service. However, it was not possible to receive comments from the main medical department of the Ministry of Justice.
Abbas Huseynov was arrested during a special operation in the village of Nardaran in November 2015, and later was sentenced to 20 years in prison. -06D-
