Baku/27.04.21/Turan: Today, the prosecutor made a final speech at the Baku Serious Crimes Court at the trial in the case of a group of persons accused of financing terrorism. The state prosecutor proposed to condemn the defendants to various sentences ranging from nine to 18 years.

In particular, the prosecutor asked the court to sentence Samir Gurbanov to 18 years, Amin Hasanov to 17 years, Aflatun Bayramov to 16 years, Babek Mammadli and Tehran Gasimov to 15 years, Javid Amanov to 14 years, Elgyun Ismayilov to 10 years, Alladin Ibishov 9.5 years, Yusif Imanov, Orkhan Gurbanov, Shakhriyar Jabbarov - 9 years in prison.

The relatives of the accused gathered in front of the court protested the speech of the prosecutor. According to them, the defendants have been on a hunger strike for 2 months in protest against the unsubstantiated, as they believe criminal prosecution of these persons.

The next court session is scheduled for May 4.

The defendants in this case were arrested several years ago on charges of participating in the war in Syria as part of illegal armed groups. They are charged under the Articles 167-2.2.1 (illegal production, import and distribution of religious literature), 167-3.1 (illegal circulation of religious extremist literature), 214 (terrorism) and 218 (creation of a criminal community) of the Criminal Code. The trial began in February 2020. However, due to the pandemic, the trial was interrupted for a long time.

The trial resumed this year and at one of the trials, the defendants inflicted cut wounds on themselves, protesting against the unjustified arrest. –30B-
